Techniques for Closure

Laparoscopic Mesh Repair

Use of multiple incisions to inflate your abdomen and then use plastic mesh to repair the hernia.  Maybe good in small hernias for those who have never had other repairs and who are relatively healthy patients.  Overall about a 20% chance of getting the hernia over time.

Meshless Hernia Repair

Novel new technique that uses own muscles to close the hernia without using mesh.

Results over time maybe better than mesh repair and result in more anatomically correct abdomen without the bulge.  Has no artificial material left behind in the belly which can then cause injury to bowel or issues with infection.

We release one layer of muscle so that the muscles can slide together and allow even the most complex hernias to be closed.  Hernias up to 20 cm have been closed and sometimes even larger ones with any tension.

Then, we reinforce the area using natural materials that help reinforce the area but are not left behind in the body therefore not causing the same long term issues as mesh.
